TEMPERAMENT ANALYSIS

  • Children (ages 7-11)
  • Teens (ages 12-17)
  • Adults (ages 18 and up)

The Arno Profile System (APS) Temperament Analysis is a report that provides insight regarding our inborn temperament needs.  Each personal analysis breaks the information down into three sections:

  • INCLUSION - this section of the anaylsis describes our intellect and social needs
  • CONTROL - this section of the analysis describes how we prefer to make decisions and take on responsibilities
  • AFFECTION - this section of the analysis describes how we prefer to interact in our close personal relationships and how much affection we want to give and receive

Each report also includes Personal Recommendations for ways to help us meet those needs to find balance and alleviate stress in each of the three areas.  Additionally, the analysis for children under age 12 includes Parental Recommendations to assist the parent in meeting the needs of the child.

WHY DO I NEED A TEMPERAMENT ANALYSIS?

If we purchase a plant for our house or garden, it typically includes care instructions that tell us how much shade, sunlight, and water the plant needs for optimal growth.  Similary, a Temperament Analysis provides insight into the individual "care instructions" or temperament needs that must be met for each person to flourish and grow emotionally and spiritually.  A temperment analysis helps us to put into words those things about us that we would like others to know but we may not necessarily be able to articulate ourselves.  Some temperaments have indirect behavior and express the opposite of their temperament needs, saying that they want one thing when what they actually need is something else. For this reason, the only way to determine the actual needs of an individual is through Temperament Analysis, as observation alone can be inaccurate. What you and the counselor are able to learn from a Temperament Analysis in just one counseling session would typically take several regular counseling sessions to learn without one, so doing a Temperament Analysis can potentially help reduce the amount of time spent in counseling as well.

HOW IS A TEMPERAMENT ANALYSIS DIFFERENT FROM PERSONALITY ASSESSMENTS DONE BY OTHER COUNSELORS?

The personality assessments used by many counselors describe how a person is behaving but cannot tell us why they are behaving that way.  The APS, on the other hand, uses temperament analysis to answer the question "Why?"  Some assessments used by counselors mention the word "temperament" when what they are actually describing is your personality, so don't be fooled by imitations.  The APS is the only tool that is able to measure inborn temperament traits.  All other assessments measure personality.
